90's Flashback: Yasmine Bleeth

Yasmine Amanda Bleeth (born June 14, 1968) is an American TV and film actress who was born in New York City. Yasmine, which is pronounced yes-MEEN, is the Arabian version of Jasmin, the name of a flower. As a child, Yasmine was frequently ridiculed for having this unusual name. Her nickname is Yaz or Yazmania.

Yasmine Bleeth is most famous for her acting role as Caroline Holden on the worldwide-syndicated TV series Baywatch, where she played an always red-swimsuit-clad lifeguard on the Los Angeles County beaches, along with David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, and Alexandra Paul.

Yasmine Bleeth's American father, Philip Bleeth, is Jewish, while her mother, Carina Bleeth (who died of inflammatory breast cancer on November 7, 1989 at the age of 47) was a Pied-noir.

Her mother was a beautiful, successful fashion model, while her father was a successful photographer. They both ran a business that rented vans to fashion photographers for on-location shoots. Her father became Yasmine's business manager.

Yasmine Bleeth's parents separated, and Yasmine was raised by her mother although she continued seeing both of her parents. Her parents divorced when Yasmine was 18 years old, and her father remarried. He then fathered two sons, Tristan Bleeth (born in 1986) and Miles Bleeth (born in 1988), who are Yasmine's two half-brothers.

300 (and Counting)!

This really has been a season full of more milestones than usual: Tom Glavine knows exactly why his 300th win should be savored.

"If I was the last one, I guess it would be pretty cool to be the last one to do something in the game," he said Sunday night after leading the New York Mets over the Chicago Cubs 8-3.

It was vintage Glavine, mixing pitches and fooling hitters, all the things that over the years made him one of baseball's best pitchers. With nervous family and friends looking on, Glavine left with a five-run lead after 6 1/3 innings, and New York's bullpen held on.

"It wasn't a dazzling performance in terms of striking people out. It was an exercise in hitting my spots and changing speeds and letting the guys behind me do their work," he said, a look of relief on his face.

Glavine (10-6) became the first 300-game winner since former teammate Greg Maddux reached the milestone in 2004 while with the Cubs.

"I think the feeling right now is probably relief," Glavine said. "At some point in time, I don't know when, the historic side of it will sink in. I know the company I'm in, and I'm as proud as can be to be in that company."

The club might be closed.

Randy Johnson has 284 wins but back problems have plagued him and he turns 44 in September.

Glavine's New England upbringing (his father, Fred, was a construction worker who seldom missed a day on the job) has served him well , particularly early in his career when he could have deferred to injury. He overcame a torn rotator cuff -- he won 22 games despite it in 1993, broken ribs which he believes cost him the Cy Young Award a year earlier, an accident that cost him his two front teeth and, last year, cold fingertips and a blood clot scare.

Glavine is not going to approach Warren Spahn's 363 victories, the most by a left-handed pitcher, or even Steve Carlton's 329. But most of his career has overlapped with the era of incomplete games when victories and losses have been harder to come by for a starter. No matter, he is quite content with life on the cusp, so long as it continues to move forward.

Red Sox Update: Saturday & Sunday in Seattle

Saturday - Daisuke Matsuzaka played the role of stopper Saturday night, helping put an end to the Red Sox's nine-game losing streak at Safeco Field. The right-hander delivered seven solid innings, leading Boston to a 4-3 victory over the Mariners.

The Boston starter allowed two runs, both on home runs, and struck out 10 batters on the night, equaling his Major League career high. It's the third time he's reached double-digit strikeouts, but the first since April 17 at Toronto. He finished with the following sparkling line:

7IP 6H 2ER 2BB 10K

The big offensive blow came from Jason Varitek, who delivered a two-out double into the left-field corner off Jarrod Washburn scoring David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez. The Boston captain has been swinging a hot bat as of late, with nine hits in his last 24 at-bats (.375) with six RBIs.

Sunday - Josh Beckett tallied his 14th win of the season as the Red Sox won Sunday afternoon's rubber match 9-2 over the Mariners on Sunday afternoon. Two runs would be enough for Beckett. He looked sharp early, tallying seven strikeouts over the first three frames and finished the game with nine punchouts in 6 2/3 innings of work. Not to be outdone by Matsuzaka the night before, his final line was:

6 2/3IP 8H 1ER 2BB 9K

There really was no dominant offensive performance this afternoon, as the Red Sox team effort included 8 different players with RBI's. With the win the Red Sox improved to 25 games over .500, with a record of 68-43. Next up on Monday is Curt Schillings return from the disabled list atthe Angels, where he will face off against Jered Weaver.

With these two pitching in this manner, the Red Sox are nearly impossible to beat!

GO SOX!
