TeAmo World Selection Series Nicaraguan Blend

Size: Robusto 5" X 54
Wrapper: Criollo
Binder: San Andres
Filler: Nicaraguan

Appearance:
This cigar looked decent enough. A bit on the rustic side it was a bit toothy. It had a faint box press to it, and was evenly packed with no noticeable veins of soft spots. Overall, it looked like a cigar. Heh.

Pre-Light:
Along with looking like a cigar, this stick smelled an awful lot like a cigar. Amazing huh? It didn't smell rancid, or over moist, or bad in any way. That said, it really didn't smell particularly good either. Yeah, I got to say, the pre light wasn't much to rave over. Well, the clip was easy, and the pre light draw seemed okay. I guess I should add that. Yeah, it clipped and the draw were just like a cigar.

Burn/Draw: The burn and draw on this cigar were pretty good. The burn, as shown in the picture above was pretty straight, and never really wandered that much from there. The draw was appropriate, and allowed for a decent amount of smoke without too much effort. Unlike other reviews I have read about this cigar, mine had a relatively firm ash that held pretty well.

Flavors: Well the first third of this cigar was rather intriguing, with some interesting notes. There was a bit of smoky woodiness, and a delightful tanginess. For the first third of this cigar I found it slightly reminiscent of a cigar I really enjoy, the Hoyo Excalibur 1066 Dark Knight. Like that cigar, this one wasn't the most refined or smooth, but the stinkyness was kinda fun! Alas this was not to continue. It was almost like, about a third of the way in, it remembered that it was a TeAmo, and magically turned itself into a dog rocket. It got in turns, sour, then bitter, and then too harsh to continue smoking. It really was rather revolting at the end. I threw it in the toilet, where it belonged, at about the two thirds mark. I read that Cigar Aficionado gave this pile of crap a 91 (or something like that). This is why I do not read that publication. My recommendation? Do not even approach this cigar without a Haz-Mat suit. Vile, I tell you, V-I-L-E!

Poetry by Pablo Neruda

I alway find when poets and writers discuss their own craft fascinating. And to that end, Pablo Neruda.

Pablo Neruda (July 12, 1904–September 23, 1973) was the pen name and, later, legal name of the Chilean writer and politician Neftalí Ricardo Reyes Basoalto.

With his works translated into manifold languages, Pablo Neruda is considered one of the greatest and most influential poets of the 20th century. Neruda was accomplished in a variety of styles ranging from erotically charged love poems like his collection Twenty Poems of Love and a Song of Despair, surrealist poems, historical epics, and overtly political manifestos. In 1971 Neruda won the Nobel Prize for Literature, a controversial award because of his political activism. Colombian novelist Gabriel García Márquez once called him "the greatest poet of the 20th century in any language"

Poetry

And it was at that age ... Poetry arrived
in search of me. I don't know, I don't know where
it came from, from winter or a river.
I don't know how or when,
no they were not voices, they were not
words, nor silence,
but from a street I was summoned,
from the branches of night,
abruptly from the others,
among violent fires
or returning alone,
there I was without a face
and it touched me.

I did not know what to say, my mouth
had no way
with names,
my eyes were blind,
and something started in my soul,
fever or forgotten wings,
and I made my own way,
deciphering
that fire,
and I wrote the first faint line,
faint, without substance, pure
nonsense,
pure wisdom
of someone who knows nothing,
and suddenly I saw
the heavens
unfastened
and open,
planets,
palpitating plantations,
shadow perforated,
riddled
with arrows, fire and flowers,
the winding night, the universe.

And I, infinitesimal being,
drunk with the great starry
void,
likeness, image of
mystery,
felt myself a pure part
of the abyss,
I wheeled with the stars,
my heart broke loose on the wind.

Rose McGowan

Rose Arianna McGowan (born September 5, 1973) is an American actress best known for her role as Paige Matthews in The WB TV series Charmed, and the cult-classic The Doom Generation. She has also appeared in several major Hollywood films, with leading roles in Scream, Jawbreaker, and the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez double-feature Grindhouse. McGowan is currently the co-host of TCM's film-series program, The Essentials.

McGowan made her first appearance in a Hollywood film with a bit role in the 1992 Pauly Shore comedy Encino Man. Her role in the 1995 black comedy The Doom Generation brought her to the attention of film critics, and she received a nomination for "Best Debut Performance" at the 1996 Independent Spirit Awards. McGowan was subsequently cast in a supporting role in the 1996 hit horror film Scream.

McGowan spent the majority of the 1990s appearing in a variety of independent films, including roles in Southie, Going All the Way, and Lewis & Clark & George. In 1997, she appeared in the critically acclaimed short Seed, directed by San Francisco-born filmmaker Karin Thayer, and played opposite Peter O'Toole in the 1998 film adaptation of the Dean Koontz novel Phantoms. Notably, McGowan also starred in the 1999 comedy Jawbreaker, where she played a high school student who tries to cover up a classmate's murder. That role earned McGowan a nomination for Best Villain at the 1999 MTV Movie Awards.

In 2001, McGowan was cast as Paige Matthews in the popular The WB television series Charmed, as a replacement lead actress after Shannen Doherty's departure from the show. She was offered to be a producer after the seventh season, but turned it down. The series ended its run on May 21, 2006.

In May 2005, McGowan portrayed actress/singer Ann-Margret in Elvis, a Golden Globe-winning CBS mini-series about the life of Elvis Presley. That same year, she lent her voice to the video game Darkwatch as a femme fatale named Tala. The game was published by Capcom for PlayStation 2 and Xbox.

In 2006, McGowan had a brief role in Brian De Palma's Academy Award-nominated film The Black Dahlia. The following year, she starred in the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez double-feature Grindhouse, released on April 6, 2007. Cast in utterly divergent roles, McGowan appears in both portions of the film, as go-go dancing Cherry in Planet Terror, and as Pam in Death Proof. McGowan attended the 60th Annual Cannes Film Festival to promote Death Proof along with Robert Rodriguez, Rosario Dawson, Tracie Thoms, Zoe Bell, and Quentin Tarantino.

According to Variety, McGowan has signed on to play B-movie staple Susan Cabot in the upcoming film Black Oasis. Director Stephan Elliott (Priscilla, Queen of the Desert) has penned and will direct the film based on a Premiere article by John H. Richardson. Shooting will begin fall 2007.

McGowan is also a co-host with Robert Osborne on TCM's film-series program The Essentials, on which a classic Hollywood film is shown every week.

Sancho Panza Belicoso

Tobacco Country: Cuba
Tobacco Procedence: Vuelta Abajo
Factory: Romeo y Julieta
Manufactured: Hand Made
Length: 5 1/2" (140mm)
Ring: 52
Format: Campana
Weight:12.45 gr.

Appearance: This was one rather rustic looking cigar. A bit on the toothy side, it even looked just a bit uneven in spots. There was a soft spot near the head on the cigar, but it never came into play in a negative way.

Pre-Light: Before clipping this cigar, a quick sniff reveals sweetness, and a hint of nutmeg like spiciness. The clip was very easy. The pre light draw was just perfect, and had more of that initial sweetness, as well as some woodiness.

Burn/Draw: The burn on this cigar was good, but not great. It did canoe at one point, but corrected fairly well on its own. The burn line was never straight, but it wasn't horrible either. The draw on the other hand was quite good, producing plenty of smoke, while burning long and slow. The ash, as seen in the picture above, was very, very firm and dark mottled.

Flavors: This was a very nice little mellow cigar. Pretty consistent the whole way through, the dominant flavors were that of honey and a light smoky woodiness. There is a little bit of cinnamon or nutmeg flavor in there as well.Very pleasant but not terribly complex. Over the last third of the cigar the spiciness becomes a bit more prominent, but the strength never surpasses mild/medium. Those looking for a powerhouse need not apply. This would make a pretty decent breakfast cigar, to enjoy with the sunrise and a nice mild coffee.

La Flor Dominicana Factory Press II

Size: 6¼" x 54
Origin: Dominican Republic
Wrapper: Nicaragua
Binder & Filler: Dominican Republic

Appearance: This is one pretty looking cigar. With its dark wrapper and severe box press, I have heard other people refer to it as looking like a Candy Bar. It even glistened a little from those tasty essential oils, giving the impression of it being dipped in dark chocolate mixed with paraffin wax.

Pre-Light: The pre light went off without incident. Clip was easy and clean. the pre light draw was free and easy and showed notes of tangy tobacco and espresso.

Burn/Draw: The draw on this cigar was just fine, free and easy and produced billows of smooth, round smoke. The burn was kinda funky though. The burn line was pretty straight but the cigar tunneled back in upon itself. It was not horrible but enough to be annoying, and I guess I expect a better burn from a premium cigar like this. The ash was pretty firm and light grey.

Flavors: This cigar was pleasant. It had some nice sweet coffee and molasses notes, and the smoke was very creamy. The cigar continued to be medium/medium in nature throughout. Toward the end, the cigar added a bit of light bakers chocolate flavors, but on the whole I guess I was unimpressed. I expected more from this cigar. It was a good medium bodied creamy cigar, but there are better ones out there, at better values.

Celtic rode their luck and a rollercoaster of emotion as a solitary Georgios Samaras goal deservedly sealed all three points in a nail-biting encounter with Aberdeen.

There were a few nervous moments towards the end of the match, and relief when Zander Diamond's late strike for the visitors was fortuitously ruled out by referee Iain Brines for an apparent hand ball by Barry Nicholson.

However, Celtic ultimately deserved the victory which maintains the winning run after Wednesday’s stunning derby win over Rangers and puts them back on top of the SPL.

Gordon Strachan was forced to make four changes to the team which started during midweek, with Bobo Balde, Mark Wilson, Massimo Donati and Georgios Samaras stepping in place of the suspended Gary Caldwell and the injured trio of Lee Naylor, Paul Hartley and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.

Celtic FC's Title Chances Pretty Much Squashed.

Scottish Premier League
Saturday, April 5, 2008
Celtic Park, Glasgow

CELTIC…. 0

MOTHERWELL… 1
(Lappin 33)

CELTIC (4-4-2) Boruc; Hinkel, Caldwell, McManus, Naylor; Nakamura, Donati (Robson 69), Brown, McGeady; Vennegoor of Hesselink, McDonald (Samaras 61).
Subs: M Brown, Wilson, Sno, Hutchinson, Hartley.

MOTHERWELL (4-5-1) Smith; Quinn (McLean 86), Reynolds, Craigan, Hammell; Lappin, Fitzpatrick, Hughes, Malcolm, McCormack (Murphy 78); Porter.
Subs: Daniels, Lasley, McGarry, Smith, Archdeacon.

Celtic's hopes of retaining the Scottish Premier League title were dealt a serious blow at Celtic Park, as a solitary goal from Simon Lappin sealed a 1-0 win for Motherwell.

Much like last week’s defeat to Rangers, Celtic again enjoyed the majority of possession and in an impressive start to the first half carved out a number of good chances.

But in a quick breakaway, Lappin scored with Motherwell's first attack of the game, a goal which eventually sealed the points for the visitors.

There were few signs of fatigue from last week’s derby defeat in the opening 25 minutes of this match, with Celtic immediately making a positive start and Scott Brown and Shunsuke Nakamura carving out a couple of early chances.

Massimo Donati also got an earful from Scott McDonald during this busy opening after the Italian showed great skill to cut along the byline, but fired straight at the keeper from a tight angle rather than cutting the ball back to the little Australian.

Celtic persevered though and despite Motherwell switching from their attacking 4-3-3 formation to a more defensive 4-5-1, the midfielders continued to play a prominent part with Brown channelling his seemingly boundless energy and influencing defence and attack.
