Boston.com's "Most Beloved Sox" Since 1967
This past week The Boston Globe has been holding voted on a "Most Beloved Team" since the '67 impossible dream season. The results:
C Jason Varitek (almost a dead heat with Fisk)
1B Mo Vaughn (has the 1B drought really been that long?)
2B Jerry Remy (wonder if its for his on field play or announcer noteriety?)
SS Nomah Gargiaparra (JOHN VALENTIN GODDAMMIT!, LOL)
3B Bill Mueller (really shoulda been Boggs, despite the Yankee thing)
DH Do you have to ask?
LF Carl Yazstremski
CF Fred Lynn
RF Dwight Evans
RP Rich Garces & Derek Lowe (I loved El Guapo personally)
Favorite Unsung Hero - Dave Roberts, duh, "The Steal"
MGR - Terry Francona (the WS title helped, I bet)
Rotation - Petey, Schill, The Rocket, Wake, El Tiante (pitching really has been thin in general over the sox history, eh? Not that any of these guys are undeserving. . .)
and the most beloved Red Sox since 1967 (as voted by people on boston.com)?
David Ortiz
who would have thought?
